Kat Yares' novella 'Vengeance is Mine' sits well amongst the growing
collection of feminist horror lit, but also successfully taps into the
growing anger against the abuses carried out by religious movements.
The
story tells of a paranormal gathering of departed women bent on
destruction of the abusive men of a small town. The book not only
delivers its chills, but also arouses a sense of revulsion at its
antagonists, Brother Joe and his son JimmyJoe. Although neatly wrapped
up, 'Vengeance is Mine' lingers in the mind after the last page, begging
the question, why are there not more of this type of story?
Horror is
not only the province of male readers and this strand is still
underexplored. Congratulations to Kat Yares for digging deeper.
